Saturday night's storm dumped several inches of rain in parts of McHenry County. The heaviest rainfall was southwest of Marengo, with up to 5 inches falling in some areas, while much of the county received at least about 2 inches, National Weather Service meteorologist Lee Carlaw said.
Kalaw said the area was expected to experience another storm from Saturday night between 5pm and 9pm on Sunday.
More storms are expected to continue moving through the area through Tuesday. Starting Monday, hot and humid weather could push the peak temperature index above 100 degrees.
“Local temperatures could be 105 to 108 degrees [heat index] scope,” he said.
The National Weather Service has issued a hazardous weather outlook for north-central and northeastern Illinois this week. Kalaw said an outlook will be issued whenever lightning is possible.
The storm brought risks of winds up to 70 mph, flash flooding, quarter-size hail and tornadoes, according to the National Weather Service. The risk of thunderstorms and high temperatures continues into Saturday.
The final day of the Rotary Rockin' Chops Festival scheduled for Sunday at Mountain Lake was canceled due to saturated rain.
