The delayed release of CUET-UG results comes at a time when there is a heated row over alleged irregularities in competitive exams such as NEET and NET

The National Testing Agency (NTA) has decided to conduct re-examination of over 1,000 CUET UG candidates on July 19.

The NTA on July 7 released the provisional answer keys for the Common University Entrance Test (CUET)-UG 2024 and announced that if there are any grievances filed by students against the conduct of the University Entrance Test, the CUET UG will be held from July 15 to 19 Candidates are required to retake the exam.

While the agency announced the retest schedule on Sunday, it has remained silent on the announcement of the results, which have been delayed for more than two weeks and final answers have yet to be released.

The delayed release of CUET-UG results comes at a time when there is a heated row over alleged irregularities in competitive exams, including NEET and NET.

According to NTA sources, the language of the question paper was not chosen by the candidates, which was one of the reasons for the retest, with more than 1,000 candidates spread across six states.

“Some of the grievances include time lost due to distribution of wrong question papers,” a source said.

Of the 1,000 CUET-UG candidates for whom the NTA is conducting reexamination, a total of 250 candidates are from Oasis Public School in Hazaribagh, which is also under the scanner for allegedly leaking the NEET-UG question paper.

According to an official notification issued on Sunday, grievances received from candidates regarding CUET (UG) 2024 examination up to June 30, 2024 and complaints sent to rescuetug@nta.ac.in between July 7 and 9 (before) 05:00 PM) reviewed.

“Based on these appeals, the affected candidates will be re-examined in the computer-based test (CBT) mode on July 19, 2024,” the notice said.

In the NEET-UG examination on May 5, wrong papers were also issued and the NTA granted grace marks due to the delay.

However, following protests and litigation in the Supreme Court, the agency removed the grace mark and announced selective re-examination for 1,563 candidates, 813 of whom had appeared for the exam on June 23.

Originally, the results of the Undergraduate Entrance Examination were scheduled to be declared on June 30, but NTA postponed the results due to allegations of paper leaks involving NEET-UG, UGC-NET and CSIR-UGC-NET.

“It was initially decided to announce the results of the remaining candidates before the re-examination. However, we have not taken a final decision on this now,” a source said.

The first nationwide CUET-UG exam to be conducted in hybrid mode was canceled in Delhi the night before the scheduled exam day due to logistical reasons. The exam was then held in the capital.

NTA had earlier announced that the third edition of CUET-UG will be completed in seven days and there will be no standardization of scores as all the exams will be conducted in one shift.

15 subjects adopt the written examination mode, and the remaining 48 subjects adopt the computer examination mode.

This year, more than 1.34 million candidates have registered for the Common Entrance Examination for undergraduate courses in 261 central, state, recognized and private universities.

In the first edition of 2022, the exam was plagued by technical glitches. Additionally, since tests for a subject are conducted in shifts, scores must be standardized during the release of results.
