AUSTIN (KXAN) — Showers and thunderstorms will return Saturday from late morning into the afternoon. Just when the temperature was approaching 90 degrees, the rain arrived just in time to cool some of us down into the 70s and 80s. Showers will continue to dissipate as overnight lows drop back into the 70s. There's another small chance of showers on Sunday, but most of us won't get any rain. Highs on Sunday will be back in the mid to upper 90s.
Rainfall totals were mixed across Central Texas on Saturday, but higher amounts fell in parts of Llano and Bastrop counties, with more than half an inch of rain falling.
Looking ahead to next week, high pressure will intensify across the state during the first half of the week. There will be zero chance of rain and temperatures will be close to 100 degrees again. There are signs that a weak cold front could approach Central Texas later this week. This could mean an increased chance of rain, possibly as soon as Thursday. The chance of rain may continue into next weekend as highs “cool” to around 90 degrees.
Light to moderate levels of Saharan dust will result in moderate air quality forecast for the next few days. The sky may not look as blue as usual. Instead, it will look a little softer, with a slightly milky appearance.
Summer 2024 Fan Events
As summer heat waves return to Central Texas, there is an urgent need for people in our communities who lack adequate air conditioning to be equipped with cooling fans to protect them from the potentially fatal dangers of heat-related illness. Family Eldercare is once again partnering with KXAN to raise fans and funds for those in need. We thank everyone who donated during our Summer Fan Event on Friday. More fans will be needed this summer, so if you don't get a chance to send one on Friday, please donate now.
