With temperatures approaching the 90s on Sunday, the chance of rain remains low as work begins this week. Check out the latest movie previews. It will be quiet overnight, with lows in the mid-70s Sunday morning. On the way out, I won’t feel as comfortable as I did a few days ago. Humidity in the Gulf of Mexico spikes during the work week, changing a calm weather pattern. Hot Sunday: The return of muggy air will start to warm up on Sunday, with average temperatures in the mid-70s. Sunday will start to be muggy compared to the past few mornings in Alabama as the dew point will be significantly higher. What is dew point? Humidity is higher. Dew point measures the humidity in an environment in degrees, similar to temperature. A higher dew point means the air is muggier, while a higher dew point means the temperature feels warmer. Moisture from the Gulf of Mexico increases rainfall chances and heat index throughout the work week. Highs soar into the mid-90s, but it feels like temperatures will top 100 degrees as the work week begins. Summer showers and storms occur in the afternoon, with some places cooling down a few degrees in the afternoon. It will stay dry for most, keeping much of Alabama hot. Upcoming Heavy Rain Chances Higher dew points will increase the chance of rain next week, coupled with a cold front moving in Thursday. However, Alabama needs rain. Severe droughts can lead to higher temperatures, scorched crops and a higher risk of fires. Thankfully, the dry air mass will recede as the week begins, allowing Alabama to slip back into storm mode. The cold front adds instability and moisture to conditions, increasing rain chances Wednesday and Thursday. Isolated storms can produce lightning, strong winds and heavy downpours. Due to the high rainfall potential, maximum temperatures will drop to the mid-to-low 90s, which is close to average. Right now, there's a good chance of rain on Friday and Saturday, but that depends on how long the front hovers over Alabama. Still, midweek rain could end a severe drought and lower temperatures across the state. Beaches start the week with stable water along the Gulf Coast of Alabama and Florida. Showers and storms are more likely near the water, and the weather will be muggier, with highs reaching the mid-90s. >>Beach Safety: Keep an eye on the weather for today's current forecast For the latest weather reports in your area, click here.
