Weather Summary
We're officially in the middle of a heat wave after temperatures hit the 90s yesterday afternoon. Today will be hot and humid again with highs in the mid to low 90s. Dew points will remain high, causing the heat index to rise to near 100 in the Capital Region for several hours this afternoon. There will be sunshine and clouds during the day and showers and storms at night. A series of storms will move through the area around 5pm to 9pm, bringing the risk of severe weather. Localized damaging winds will be the main threat, but we can't rule out isolated tornadoes or hail. The storm should move east quickly, but there is still a chance of heavy rain, which could lead to waterlogged roads and some urban/poor drainage flooding in mining areas.
The storm will end later in the evening and dry conditions will return overnight. A cold front will hit our west tomorrow, but we'll still have another hot and humid day. Temperatures will be in the 80s and the dew point will be unbearable. Showers and thundershowers are expected to return in the afternoon and evening, with the possibility of severe weather. Any thunderstorms will dissipate overnight, but some remaining showers may linger into Thursday morning when the cold front finally moves through the wet weather south of our local area. The weather will begin to ease with the arrival of drier, cooler air masses. Thursday morning clouds will give way to late afternoon sunshine.
After that, it should stay quiet and relatively comfortable through the weekend and early next week. Skies will be partly clear to mostly clear, with little chance of rain, and highs in the low 80s!
