    Sally Jewell says Trump return could cause climate progress to 'unravel'

    The former interior secretary said she was “scared” about what a second Trump administration might mean for climate and environmental policy.

    Sally Jewell, who served as U.S. Interior secretary from 2013 to 2017, said the climate risks in the November election “couldn’t be higher” and that she would “really worried about the future of our planet.” white house.

    “Going backwards is unacceptable,” Jewell told attendees at the Bloomberg Green Festival in Seattle on Thursday. She added that “I have no words to describe the importance of continuing the progress we have made over the past three years” on climate change, particularly the passage of the bipartisan Infrastructure Act and the Inflation Reduction Act.

    Jewell said one of the biggest obstacles to achieving net-zero emissions is that consumers still aren't paying for the carbon they put into the atmosphere. Financial incentives needed: “I don't think people will start changing their behavior until we start looking at the real impact.”
