Captain Thapa and three other Army personnel were killed in a clash between security forces and terrorists in Doda in Jammu and Kashmir on Monday.
Captain Brijesh Thapa was killed in a gunfight with terrorists in Doda and his father, Colonel Bhuvanesh Thapa (retd), said he was proud of his son. The retired colonel also mentioned that when Captain Brijesh's coffin arrives in his hometown of Darjeeling, West Bengal, he will pay tribute to him like a soldier.
Colonel Thapa (retired) said in an interview with News18: “When I learned that he had passed away, I couldn't believe it. He returned to the country in March and only stayed for 15 days. Although I am sad, I feel sorry for me I am so proud of my son that he gave his life for Mother India. I will pay my respects to him as a soldier tomorrow when his body comes.
Captain Brijesh grew up in a defense atmosphere as his father was in the Army. Colonel Bhuvanesh (retd) further said that his son had always wanted to join the Indian Army. “He used to wander around in my army uniform as a child. Even after completing engineering, he still wanted to join the army. The only sad thing is that we will never see him again; otherwise, I am happy that he sacrificed his life for the country, “He said.
His mother, Nilima Thapa, who was devastated by the news of her son's death, said she was proud of her son, who gave his life for the country. On Sunday, the captain told his mother that he would have to go up the mountain for surgery, and she warned him to take care of himself. This was the last communication between the captain and his family.
“He will not come back to us. At 11 o'clock in the evening we received the message. He is a very decent man. We used to tell them that life in the army is difficult,” she said.
State Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee also expressed condolences and said, “I am saddened to know that Brijesh Thapa, a young Army officer from Darjeeling, died in the line of duty in Jammu and Kashmir. I My sincere condolences,” she said in a post on X.

Darjeeling MP Raju Bista also expressed his condolences on the death of the captain and said, “The entire Darjeeling is mourning Captain Brijesh today and we are proud of the Gorkha Troubles. My thoughts are with the family , the Gurkha brothers once again gave their blood for the country.”
