Predicted Jargon Decoder: June 30, 2024

It was a fun day, arriving at Ocean Beach at dawn and watching the south-southwest eddy break up as the northwest white caps reached the beach just before 1pm

oh! Be sure to bring your kite! Winds are expected to be in the teens to low 20s along the entire coast of Crissy Beach, Texas. Launches, poles and guns, Benicia, Prime Sherman and the whole peninsula!

Why? Well, can you count to three?

The huge 3,700-mile-wide North Pacific high pressure pulls eddy-induced ridges back from as far away as Northern California, so the NPH's isobars are parallel to the coast, producing strong northwesterly winds.

A strong pressure gradient develops from Las Vegas to Bakersfield to the Stockton area, drawing northwesterly winds to the coast and San Bruno Channel and shredding peninsular waters with northwesterly winds.

Sand blown in from Pacifica buried the highway. 92 level gap so there is no westerly wind at the launch site.

At the same time, 30-40 knot winds developed about 1000 ft (975 MB) aloft and collided with the coastal range, becoming turbulent and randomly transferring momentum to the NW wind and passing the inbound WSW through the slot. The wind pushed away from Pt. Isabel, and maybe Berkeley.

Need I mention the strong winds!
