Six people have died from heat-related issues in Maryland this summer, four of them in the past two weeks, according to the state health department.

Prince George's County, Maryland, recorded its first heat-related death of the year last month. Since then, central Maryland has experienced severe heat in late June and early July.

Prince George's County reported three more heat-related deaths during the recent heat wave, and Anne Arundel and Baltimore City each reported one heat-related death, according to the Maryland State Department of Health.

The Baltimore area may get a break from the heat as the weekend approaches, with storms expected Thursday, Friday and Saturday. However, the heat index will rise back above 100 on Sunday afternoon, and temperatures will still rise later.

As high temperatures persist, Baltimore-area cooling centers could alleviate dangerous conditions.
