The British Open is held at Royal Troon.
The final major of the year kicks off in Scotland on Thursday morning, with cold, windy and rainy conditions expected throughout the week. While No. 1 Scottie Scheffler is the heavy favorite, there are plenty of other players available to compete at the Claret Jug on Sunday afternoon. Among those in the early stages was Justin Thomas, who hasn't won since his 2022 PGA Championship victory but is now the club leader after shooting a 3-under 68.
Tiger Woods, who returns to action this week after a poor showing at last month's US Open, almost immediately hit back at calls for him to retire after arriving in the UK. He will tee off at 9:37 pm ET along with Xander Schauffele and Patrick Cantlay.
McIlroy, who fell off the field at the end of the U.S. Open without winning a major in a decade, will join Max Homa and Tyrrell Hatton in the morning session at 5:09 a.m. ET. Defending U.S. Open champion Bryson DeChambeau will start ahead of him.

DeChambeau still doesn't understand the British
It doesn't look like back-to-back majors for Bryson DeChambeau. After shooting a 42 on the front nine, the U.S. Open champion had five consecutive bogeys on his backcourt to move six shots ahead of par.
This is not surprising, as the British Open has never been a good thing for Bryson. He had one top-10 finish in six previous starts (tied for eighth in 2022). He missed the cut twice and finished tied for 60th a year ago.

McIlroy has ruled himself out of contention
How will Rory McIlroy respond after his crushing loss at the U.S. Open? Well, not so good.
After shooting a 2-over 38 on the front nine, he bogeyed No. 10 and then hit his ball out of bounds on No. 11 for a double. He finished at 5, eight strokes behind Justin Thomas.
