We have activated a Bureau of Meteorology warning for Wednesday afternoon into late Wednesday night for the possibility of more severe thunderstorms and heavy rain.
Tonight, the southern half of the region (Kentucky, Tennessee and SEMO) is listed as a Level 3 “Enhanced” risk for severe storms. This may include the risk of damaging winds, hail and possible tornadoes.
There will be widespread rainfall in the area this afternoon. An isolated severe storm cannot be ruled out this afternoon, but it appears the best elements for severe weather will arrive later tonight (8pm to 1am).
Some of the supercells in SEMO may start to develop storms tonight around 8-9pm tonight. There may be a slightly higher risk of hail or tornadoes in these areas. By 10 to 11 p.m., the storm may condense into a line and create an increased threat of damaging winds as it moves into Kentucky and Tennessee. By 1 a.m., most of the storm will be south of our area.
In addition to the threat of severe storms, some areas may experience repeated rounds of heavy rain, which could lead to at least some minor flooding issues. Rainfall totals of about 2-3 inches are most likely from MO Bootheel to northwest Tennessee.
Be sure to charge your devices tonight and receive and hear warnings (if warnings are issued) through multiple means, including your WPSD Radar app. Please stay and track the storm with us tonight.
