LIVE UPDATE: Severe thunderstorm warning in place for Triad as heat recedes and storm chance increases
Millions of Americans. Dillon, another impact day for the Piedmont Triad, when can we expect a possible storm? Oh, well, look at your watch now. Really? Honestly, over the next few hours, we're going to start to see an increase in activity. We have a storm risk later this afternoon and evening. I expect it to peak in the late 1980s. Notice that in this picture you see a lot of people from the 80s and no people from the 90s. Yes, there are some changes going on in the forecast, and I think those changes are for the better. And stuff you'll enjoy. There are two more chances of rain and mild temperatures. Especially two on Friday. Then comes Saturday. The potential for storms also increases. It's very warm and humid outside right now. You can tell the sky looks a little unstable. The atmosphere today is vibrant. We're going to find out pretty soon that there's going to be some storms here. 87 In Winston-Salem we are now seeing some sunshine through the clouds and it is mostly quiet in our area. But in southern Virginia, there is a weakening storm group that is passing just north of the Danville area. Now, get closer to South Boston and eventually through southern Virginia to I-85. later this day. I should say there's a shower or thunderstorm and some thunder and lightning starting now in Caswell County and heading toward Roxboro into Person County. But for the rest of our region, we are currently silent. But again, over the next few hours we'll be watching to see if scattered storms start to emerge. Temperatures won't rise significantly Thursday afternoon, only reaching the low 80s. The best chance for storms will be around 8:00 and then things should start to calm down with overnight temperatures in the 70s in the foothills, the chance for storms will end a little earlier, probably around dinner time and things will start to calm down Come down. Highs tonight will be in the mid 80s. It's going to be warm and humid later this afternoon, but not as hot as before, so that's good news. Our average score in the mountains today was 82 points, just 77 points. Boone is in Jefferson with a few persistent showers in the evening. Maybe even overnight. The northern Piedmont region could see some bumpy storms and even south along I-85 to Lexington and down into the Charlotte area. Some bumpy storms pop up. 1 or 2 of these may be strong or severe, so be wary of this. real. 1pm to 8pm is the prime time to watch for damaging wind gusts and this will be our main concern. Some small hail is also not ruled out, and of course, these storms may also be accompanied by heavy rain, thunder and lightning. But from here on out, remember that the front lines are what's causing these storms later today. There will be pauses in our area on Friday, Saturday and Sunday. This is how our weather patterns are changing. We'll get back to a chance of daily rain and storms, along with some additional clouds, and while it will still be quite humid, the high temperatures won't be able to get as high. So I'm going to be talking about highs in the 80s over the next seven days, which is good news. News, of course. The latest drought watch map has just been released, welcoming the possibility of daily rain and storms, and as expected, the drought will only continue to worsen. A severe drought has struck much of the foothills and has now spread to the Triad. Yadkin County is currently in the midst of an extreme drought. So we could certainly use some rainwater. We have a great chance to hit some new heights in the 80s over the next 7 days
