A severe thunderstorm watch is in place for parts of Kansas and southwestern Nebraska until 10 p.m. Friday.
Temperatures warmed a few degrees ahead of the severe storm system. The storm will move into northwestern Kansas and southwestern Nebraska early this evening.
These storms can bring damaging winds and large hail. Additionally, the storm will form in eastern Colorado and move into western Kansas. The two clusters organize into a healthy storm complex.
The hurricane moved south across western Kansas, bringing damaging winds into Friday night.
Winds of 60-70 mph are possible along the leading edge of the complex, with occasional gusts up to 80 mph.
Weakening will occur further south and east as the overnight session progresses. Scattered showers and storms will develop in the Wichita metro before dawn. In the Far East, leftovers linger throughout the morning.
New thunderstorms will develop near and east of the turnpike Saturday night as the cold front approaches. A storm or two could bring severe hail and strong winds to southeastern Kansas.
More isolated storms will develop further to the west.
Temperatures will drop tomorrow, mostly in the low 80s, with some in the upper 70s!
The effects of the cold front will still be felt with cooler than average temperatures through the end of the weekend and the start of next week.
A low pressure system is aligned to our east, bringing a chance for scattered showers and storms Sunday, Monday and Tuesday afternoon/evening. On Tuesday, the system will begin tracking, bringing gradually warmer temperatures.
The chance of rain will decrease mid to late next week. Highs will reach the 90s on Thursday, with temperatures expected to rise further next weekend.
