Saturday, July 20: Gujarat has been grappling with severe rainfall irregularities this monsoon season. Sixteen of the 33 districts recorded a critical rainfall deficit of 21%, mainly affecting central and northern Gujarat. Data released by the India Meteorological Department (IMD) showed that Dang, known for its lush green landscape during the monsoon, experienced the worst water shortage with a shortfall of 48%, while Ahmedab ad Also suffered a 26% shortfall.
On the other hand, heavy rainfall lashed Porbandar, Junagadh and Debhumidwarka districts of Gujarat in the 36 hours till Friday evening. Going forward, an offshore trough along the coast of southern Gujarat and northern Kerala and a cyclonic circulation in the northeastern Arabian Sea are likely to bring more rainfall to Maharashtra and Gujarat.
