phoenix — a overheating warning It's now valid until 8pm Saturday, so we're at ABC15 Weather Action Pattern A reminder to take action to keep yourself and your family safe during dangerously high temperatures.
High temperatures in the valley will be near 115 degrees, with overnight lows only falling into the upper 80s to lower 90s.
Hot afternoons and nights with little relief combine to increase the risk of heat-related illnesses such as heat exhaustion and heat stroke.
Limit time outside, especially in the morning and afternoon, stay hydrated with water and electrolyte drinks, and never leave children or pets alone in the car, no matter how fast the task is.
The chance of monsoon storms will also increase over the weekend.
The greatest potential will be in the higher areas of northern, eastern and southeastern Arizona, but more storms are also possible in the valleys.
Any storms that occur could produce gusty winds, blowing dust, dangerous lightning, small hail, heavy downpours and flooding, especially along and near wildfire burn tracks. Therefore, please remain aware of weather conditions and do not attempt to drive through flooded swales or roads.
Temperatures will only drop a few degrees as monsoon humidity increases and storm chances increase.
Valley highs will hover around 112 degrees next week, with overnight lows in the mid-90s (that is, unless more widespread storms help cool things down.)
