Mild trade winds will continue over the next few days, with light to locally windy trading returning early next week. A weak disturbance in the trade will increase cloud and shower activity tonight. Another weak disturbance will sweep across the islands on Tuesday. Neither disturbance is expected to bring significant rainfall, but should bring some beneficial rainfall to the windward and Mauka areas.

A weak trough of low pressure over the Kaiwei Channel will continue to move across the rest of the state today. Clouds and showers continue to move into the Windward Islands early this morning, with locally moderate to heavy rain from the Hamakua coast to Puna and along the Ka'u coast. The highest rainfall in the past 12 hours was 4.2 inches near Honolii. Over the past few hours, wet weather has begun to move into East Maui. Hilo's 12Z sounding contained 1.81 inches of precipitable water in the unstable atmosphere, and the CIMSS MIMIC PWAT over the Alenuihaha Strait showed similar values. Today, this setup continues to support areas of moderate to locally heavy rainfall on the Windward Islands and East Maui, but flooding concerns remain minimal. Otherwise, a slight increase in windward clouds and showers is expected for other parts of the state tonight as moisture continues eastward across the islands. Tonight, cloud cover will mainly increase in leeward areas, along with showers.
Conditions are dry again on Sunday and trading is expected to be light on Monday. A light to locally windy trade will continue for much of the coming week as high pressure strengthens northeast of the state.
Another disturbance associated with an area of deeper moisture currently near 137 degrees west latitude is expected to move across the state on Tuesday with a model PWAT of approximately 1.8 inches. This system will bring more widespread clouds and showers to the windward and mauka areas of all islands. As trade strengthens, some of these showers are expected to spill over to leeward areas at times. More typical trade wind conditions are expected to return following the disruption, with strong trading continuing into next weekend.

Moderate to locally breezy trading will continue into the weekend. A passing disturbance is expected to cause increased windward SHRA over the eastern end of the state for the remainder of today. Low cigars should favor the windward and mahogany areas, where brief MVFR may occur. Otherwise, VFR shall prevail.

ocean
As the high pressure center strengthens, the high pressure system north of the Hawaiian Islands will begin to strengthen the trade winds into a fresh, locally strong afternoon. Starting tonight and continuing through much of next week, trade wind speeds will be sufficient to support Small Craft Advisory (SCA) conditions for windy waters and channels near Maui and the Big Island. An SCA has been issued for these waters starting tonight.
The background south swell energy pulse is expected to continue for much of next week, with waves remaining below average. Slightly rough seas are expected along the east coast over the next few days as trade winds persist. The east coast surf is getting rougher as strong local trade picks up early next week.
Spring tides are set to peak this weekend, with local tide gauges showing water levels already above guidance. Currently, water levels in Hilo, Kahului and Honolulu are at least 1 foot above the mean high water (MHHW) threshold and have exceeded the 1 foot threshold in Honolulu. A coastal flooding statement for isolated minor flooding has been extended until Monday evening.

The Small Craft Advisory is available from 6pm tonight until 6am Monday (HST) for Maalaea Bay, Pailolo Channel, Alenuihaha Channel, and the leeward waters of the Big Island.
