SACRAMENTO — The northern part of the state is expected to experience a heat wave this week similar to early July, but it's not expected to be as hot or as long, according to a report Saturday from the National Weather Service in Sacramento.
There is a 20-50 percent chance of high temperatures exceeding 110 degrees in North Valley cities from today through Wednesday, with the foothills expected to see the hottest weather on Tuesday.
Highs are expected to rise from 102 to 107 degrees today through Monday in Chico; from 102 to 107 in Oroville; from 96 to 100 in Paradise; and from 104 to 108 in Red Bluff.
On Tuesday, highs are expected to be 108 degrees in Chico, 108 degrees in Oroville, 102 degrees in Paradise and 109 degrees in Red Bluff.
Overnight temperatures in Chico, Oroville and Red Bluff are expected to rise from the low to mid-70s today into Monday before returning to the mid-70s by Wednesday night.
Thin clouds forming along the Sierra Nevada coast could produce some isolated thunderstorms Thursday night, reports said. The heat warning is expected to begin from 11 a.m. on July 22 to 11 p.m. on July 24.
