Despite the coastal morning fog, it was another beautiful summer day. Heat advisories and warnings will continue to be in place for many inland areas throughout the weekend. Breezy or even gusty northerly winds are also possible, especially near the Gaviota coast. Overnight lows will be in the 50s and 60s, with more scattered low fog along the coast. Monday looks like the pattern will repeat, with afternoon highs in the mid-70s and lows in the mid-80s across the coastal plain. Inland areas will be very warm to hot again, with highs reaching the 90s and 100s.
Looking ahead, high pressure will continue to blanket much of the western part of the country. As it drifts east, we'll see cooler onshore winds coming from the ocean. As it rolls back to the west, we'll see the overland flow weaken and the heat increase. The marine layer is likely to remain in place, keeping temperatures cooler along our coasts and creating mist every morning. Fire concerns remain very high, with northerly winds in the afternoon likely causing the rapid spread of any potential fire sources. We really don’t see much change in this pattern, which means the rest of July and at least early August is more typical summer weather.
