Forecasters said there could be some brief relief Monday as dangerously high temperatures “feel like” the heat index on Sunday put a searing exclamation point on South Florida's weekend.
Temperatures in the 90s and high humidity across the region prompted the National Weather Service in Miami to extend a heat advisory through Sunday night.
The weather service forecast “feels like” temperatures of 105 to 110 degrees in Palm Beach, Broward and Miami-Dade counties. Palm Beach County residents are expected to feel the hottest temperatures Sunday afternoon, with temperatures as high as 109 degrees.
“These conditions will result in an increased risk of heat stroke for people outdoors or in non-air-conditioned spaces,” the weather service said Sunday.
Scattered thunderstorms are expected Monday morning and temperatures will drop slightly, with highs expected to reach the mid-80s and a heat index that will feel close to 100.
Forecasters say there is a 60-70% chance of precipitation each day through Friday.
