Today was an interesting day with highs reaching 100 degrees during the day and then immediately getting colder as a series of showers and thunderstorms moved into our area! Overall, we are seeing 0.25 to 0.5 inches across most areas, with some heavier spots in some of the most active locations in Iion and Cocaine counties.
Tonight, we will continue to watch these showers and storms fade away as they run out of energy. The general wind direction should be from the south around 5 mph, but gusty at times along the remaining outflow boundary. Morning lows should fall into the low 70s and upper 60s around the area as we've seen dew points jump into the low 60s and low 70s.
Starting around noon tomorrow, there will be a heavier rain! It's looking unsettled at the moment but will add to wider shower and storm coverage tomorrow afternoon. Please be aware of high water and flash flood warnings on the roads as some of these storms will be heavy downpours and slow turning winds. Right now I'm predicting highs in the low 90s, but depending on the timing and intensity of the rain, we may stay cooler.
Over the longer term, an elongated upper-level trough wedges us between itself and an upper-level ridge over the southwestern United States. It should keep us active for much of the 7-day forecast, especially in Tuesday's timeframe. Rainfall will be heavy on Tuesday and will taper off by the end of next week, while daytime temperatures are expected to hold steady in the low 90s with morning lows in the low 70s.
