The IMD has issued a red alert for Maharashtra's Raigad district and heavy rainfall is expected in the region.
Meanwhile, Chief Minister Eknath Shinde on Sunday asked officials to remain on high alert in view of heavy rains in parts of Mumbai and Maharashtra, including the coastal Konkan region.
The National Disaster Relief Force, local administration, civil agencies, police, etc. should regularly obtain the latest weather conditions from the India Meteorological Department and formulate corresponding plans to provide relief to citizens, CM Eknath Shinde explain.
Shinde said accident-prone areas should be investigated, flood prevention measures should be taken and traffic should be diverted as required.
The CM added that updates on the IMD should be shared with citizens regularly.
He told officials that adequate reserves of food, medicine and disaster relief supplies should be maintained and temporary shelter camps must be established for people and animals.
Heavy rains lashed parts of Mumbai on Sunday, causing flooding, traffic jams and disruption to flight operations in the city.
According to reports, flight operations at the Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj International Airport were briefly suspended on two occasions due to bad weather and low visibility during the rains in Mumbai.
Some flights of IndiGo, Air India, Vistara and Alkasa Air were diverted on Sunday.
Air India said in a post on Travel on July 21, 2024.
Meanwhile, Mumbai Police has also issued a warning to all citizens, urging them to avoid traveling to coastal areas for the time being.
The Mumbai police stated in the report: “In view of the continued heavy rain in Mumbai, citizens are asked to avoid going to coastal areas, move out of their homes only when necessary, take preventive measures, and call 100 in case of emergency.”
