As per tradition, Sitharaman and MoS (Finance) Pankaj Choudhary met the President at Rashtrapati Bhavan before heading to Parliament.
President Droupadi Murmu on Tuesday addressed Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman on his arrival at Rashtrapati Bhavan ahead of the presentation of the Union Budget to the Lok Sabha today. She presented “dahi-chini” (curds) which was considered auspicious.

After meeting the president, the ministers headed to parliament. The Union Cabinet then met and approved the budget.
The budget for the fiscal year 2024-25 (April 2024 to March 2025) will be approved by the Cabinet headed by Prime Minister Narendra Modi before it is actually presented to Parliament.
Earlier today, Sitharaman carried a tablet wrapped in a 'bahi khata' style bag outside the Finance Ministry, continuing a tradition she had set in 2019.
The economy is expected to grow by 6.5-7% this fiscal year, according to an economic survey tabled in parliament on Monday.
