After several pictures of policemen in uniform went viral on social media, Bengaluru Police Commissioner B Dayananda issued a circular warning the police of disciplinary action.
Dayananda in the notice stressed that the image of the police department would be at risk if police officials post videos on social media that are not related to their work. He also stressed that the police department is known for its discipline and commitment and such behavior will only bring them down among the public.
“Uniform represents discipline, commitment and dedication. Creating social media reels on irrelevant topics will tarnish the image of the department. Uploading videos/photos in uniform is also against department rules,” Bengaluru Commissioner B Dayananda said.
“There are thousands of fan pages ranging from constables to senior police officers and even these fan pages where police personnel are portrayed as demigods must be curtailed,” he added.
According to the notification, the social media unit of Bengaluru Police has also been directed to closely monitor such videos and activities on social media and report them to senior citizens for necessary action.
