NBC 5 Storm Team says Chicago's weather forecast for Tuesday calls for rising humidity and the possibility of showers and storms in some areas.

NBC 5 meteorologist Alicia Roman said that while a cold front is expected to cool temperatures later this week, temperatures could reach the upper 80s and lower 90s for a few days next week.

Roman said Tuesday started out like a “typical summer day” in Chicago, with a high of 86 degrees and gradually rising dew points. Storms and showers are possible between 3 p.m.

Scattered showers and storms could move into Chicago by around 5 p.m., with rain moving into northwest Indiana and Kankakee by the evening, Roman said.

While no severe weather is expected, the storm could bring lightning strikes, heavy downpours and gusty winds.

[5:15 AM CDT Tue 7/23/2024] Scattered thunderstorms are possible this afternoon into evening (with greatest coverage north of I-80), with the main danger being lightning strikes and locally heavy rain. The strongest storms may produce gusty winds. #ILwx #INwx pic.twitter.com/dD2IiF8L1b

Storms and showers are expected to persist in some areas overnight and into Wednesday morning's commute and into the early afternoon, Roman said. More widespread rainfall is expected by then.

The wet weather is expected to end by Wednesday afternoon, Roman said.

Temperatures will also drop Wednesday as a cold front moves in behind the rain, Roman said. A high of 81 degrees is expected on Wednesday, with temperatures dropping into the 70s and 80s as the work week continues.

[5:15 AM CDT Tue 7/23/2024] Scattered showers and thunderstorms are possible at times later today into Wednesday. The rest of the week will be dry, with temperatures continuing to be close to seasonal and humidity comfortable. #ILwx #INwx pic.twitter.com/ud4d2EeCHy

Roman said temperatures will warm up starting this weekend, with the NBC 5 Storm Team predicting above-average temperatures from July 30 to August 5. to below 90 degrees Fahrenheit.
