When the police arrived at the scene, they found that the man had been electrocuted by the electricity inside the iron gate, and said that the road was flooded.

A 26-year-old civil service candidate was allegedly electrocuted due to heavy rains in central Delhi's Patel Nagar area, police said on Tuesday.

Deputy Commissioner of Police (Central) M Harsha Vardhan said: “At 2.43 pm on Monday, the Ranjit Nagar police station received information that a person was stuck on the iron gate due to electric current near the Power Gym near the Patel Nagar metro station.” .

On reaching the spot, it was found that the man had been electrocuted by electricity inside the iron gate, Vardhan said, adding that the road was covered with water.

“The person was rushed to RML Hospital where doctors declared him dead,” he said.

The victim was identified as Nilesh Rai, a civil service aspirant and a resident of PG in Patel Nagar, the DCP said.

Vardhan said an FIR has been registered at Ranjit Nagar police station and a forensic team has also visited the spot.

He added that further investigations were underway.
