Weather updates: The IMD has issued a red alert for parts of central Maharashtra till July 24 as Mumbai experiences severe flooding and incessant rainfall. The city, its suburbs and nearby areas (Sain, Palghar and Raigad) are bracing for further heavy rainfall as a high tide warning comes into force for the afternoon.
The IMD issued a yellow alert for Mumbai and Thane on Tuesday and an orange alert on Wednesday due to heavy rains. In view of the seriousness of the situation, a red alert has been issued for the states of Gujarat, Konkan, Goa and Western Madhya Pradesh.
Heavy rain has been falling since Saturday night, causing severe flooding and traffic congestion. Fortunately, there were no casualties when a mobile tower collapsed in Bandup, destroying many houses. Social media was flooded with photos of submerged police stations, illustrating the depth of the flood's impact.
Teams of the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) have been deployed across Maharashtra in response to heavy rain warnings. Apart from the usual locations, NDRF teams are also stationed at Vasai (Palghar), Thane, Ghatkopar, Powai (Kulla), Mahad (Raigad), Khed and Chiplun (Ratnagiri), Kudal (Sindhudurg), Kolhapur, Sangli and Satarapur Mumbai and Nagpur.

Weather in other areas
The IMD has forecast widespread light to moderate rainfall along with thunderstorms and lightning over western, central, eastern and southern peninsular India over the next five days. Heavy rains are expected on July 22 in coastal areas of Karnataka, Chhattisgarh, Vidarbha and East Madhya Pradesh. The weather conditions from July 23 to July 26 are similar to those from July 23 to July 24.
The southern peninsula of India is expected to experience strong surface winds in the next two days with wind speeds between 30 and 40 km/h. Heavy rain is expected to occur in coastal and southern interior parts of Karnataka from July 22 to July 26. , Jharkhand, West Bengal Ganga and Madhya Pradesh will also receive heavy rainfall during this period.
North India Weather Forecast
Light to moderate rains and thunderstorms will occur over Himachal Pradesh, Uttarakhand, eastern Rajasthan and other parts of northwest India. Rainfall will be spread over a wide area. According to the orange advisory, extremely heavy rainfall is expected to occur in Uttarakhand from July 22 to 23, and from July 23 to 24 in northwestern Uttar Pradesh, Punjab, Haryana and eastern Rajasthan. Heavy rainfall occurs. Temperatures are expected to be above average over the next two days in Punjab and Haryana-Chandigarh-Delhi, while the weather will be humid and hot in western Rajasthan.
