We are experiencing the last few days with an average high of 90 before the decline begins. In that sense, today is pretty standard weather for the end of July. The temperature in and around the urban area is about 90 degrees, with moderate humidity and plenty of sunshine. The rainfall of recent days is also likely to continue in many places, with showers and storms possible tonight. We still need rain, although Monday was the wettest day since March with 1.57 inches of rain in Washington.

By Tonight: Scattered showers and storms to the southwest tonight. In the city, we'll likely stay dry around sunset, with showers and storms lasting a few hours once they arrive. Brief periods of heavy rain are possible from any storm, bringing some potential for flooding, but activity should remain below severe levels. As one travels north, there can be a fairly steep cutoff. After midnight, the weather will be mostly just a few showers and maybe a bit of fog, with lows settling into the mid-70s.

Check Current weather in the Washington Post.

Tomorrow (Wednesday): Scattered fog or a few showers could linger into the morning, but otherwise there's only a slight chance of storms, mainly later in the day. The sky is partly clear. Highs should rise into the 80s or 90s again.

rain! Yesterday, 1.57 inches of rain fell in Washington, D.C., which was not only the most rainfall since March, but also exceeded the rainfall totals in June and July before yesterday. Some spots could easily gain an inch or two tonight as many spots nearby and to the south will run at least a half inch or so. While the totals will drop further north, this is a very welcome change from the recent pattern. Remember not to drive onto any flooded roads you may encounter!
