A Fire Weather Watch Effective for most of central and eastern Montana from 12 noon Thursday to 12 a.m. Friday.
Extensive haze and smoke (from wildfires locally, in Canada, and across the western United States) are expected tonight and tomorrow, with air quality that may be unhealthy at times for sensitive groups. Later tomorrow, some cleaner air will start to move into Montana, and while there will still be haze tomorrow night and Thursday, it won't be as severe as it has been so far this week, which means the air quality will be better. Good quality and visibility is better in the second half of the week.
Skies will be mostly clear tonight and conditions will be dry. Temperatures will also be mild tonight as lows will be in the mid-60s and mid-to-upper 50s in most areas. There will also be breezy conditions tonight in the northern Rockies.
Clouds will increase tomorrow afternoon and evening, with scattered showers and thundershowers. A few severe thunderstorms and strong winds (58+ mph) are also possible tomorrow afternoon and evening. As a cold front moves through our area, scattered showers and thunderstorms will develop tomorrow night and around Thursday (mostly in the afternoon hours, usually in areas east of I-15). We'll also have partly to mostly clear skies on Thursday.
Breezes will also be expected around tomorrow or so in western north central Montana and around the Helena area, with sustained winds between 10 and 25 mph. Widespread gusty to strong winds are expected on Thursday, with sustained winds between 10 and 30 mph and gusts as high as 50 mph possible. The fire danger is extremely high tomorrow and Thursday due to high temperatures, low relative humidity, gusty to strong winds, thunder and outflow thunderstorm gusts, please be careful not to start new fires. Lightning may also spark new fires over the next two days, so be sure to alert authorities if you see any new smoke.
Dangerously high temperatures are also expected tomorrow, with highs between 95° and 110°, with the highest temperatures in eastern Montana. Thursday will still be hot but will be slightly cooler as highs will be in the mid-80s to low 100s, with eastern Montana again seeing the hottest temperatures.
Temperatures are expected to drop on Friday and into the weekend as highs will only be in the 80s and lows will be in the 90s. It will also be mainly sunny/foggy and mainly dry on Friday and Saturday. On Sunday we'll have mostly sunny weather with isolated showers and thunderstorms as a disturbance moves through our region. Friday will also be breezy again, with sustained winds between 10 and 20 mph. There will be breezy conditions this weekend, with sustained winds between 5 and 20 mph.
A lot of sunshine and dry conditions are expected on Monday and Tuesday as high pressure will control our weather. The weather will also be very warm to hot and breezy these two days, with highs in the mid-to-upper 80s and lows in the mid-90s, with sustained winds between 10 and 20 mph.
