Vehicles traveling from Raoul and Spiti to Manali via the northern entrance of Atal Tunnel have been diverted to Rohtang.
Heavy rains triggered flash floods in Himachal Pradesh's Kullu district, closing a section of the National Highway 3 to vehicular traffic, police said on Thursday.
They said no injuries were reported from Wednesday night's incident.
According to officials, the stretch between Dhundi and Palchan bridge on NH-3, also known as Leh-Manali road, was affected by heavy rains in Anjani Mahadev nullah in Manali district.
Vehicles heading towards Manali from Raoul and Spiti via the north entrance of the Atal Tunnel have been diverted to Rohtang, the Raoul and Spiti police said in a report on Thursday.
It also asks commuters to travel only when necessary, drive with caution, and be aware of possible hazards along the way.
A total of 15 roads, including 12 in Mandi, two in Kinnaur and one in Kangra district, were closed to vehicular traffic on Wednesday evening while 62 transformers failed in the state, the State Emergency Operations Center said.
There were reports of damage to an electrical project and some homes, but these have not been confirmed by officials who are assessing the damage.
On Wednesday, the local weather department office issued a “yellow” alert, saying that remote areas of Himachal Pradesh will receive heavy rains in the next four days (till July 28). Buildings and “kucha” houses will be damaged.
The Emergency Operations Center said that since the onset of monsoon on June 27, a total of 49 people have died in the state due to rain-related incidents, causing losses of about Rs 389 crore.
