MAYFIELD, Ky. — The National Weather Service confirmed Tuesday that a tornado originated west of Mayfield near the Graves and Hickman county lines around 8:10 a.m. Sunday.
According to an investigation summary provided by the NWS, the storm caused damage consistent with an EF-1 tornado. Peak winds are estimated at 100 mph, with a path length of 5 miles and a maximum width of 50 yards. Moderate tree damage was found along the path of the tornado, with some trees uprooted and several large branches broken. A farm outbuilding on the road was destroyed. Winds of 70 to 80 mph continued to blow south of Mayfield.
The tornado ended around 8:15 a.m. five miles southwest of downtown Mayfield.
The tornado has not caused any casualties.
