The Telangana government has proposed a budget of Rs 291 crore, with total revenue of Rs 221 crore and capital expenditure of Rs 33,487 crore, while the total state debt in the past 10 years was Rs 671 crore.
BRS Chairman K Chandrasekhar Rao slammed the Telangana Budget tabled in the Legislature on Thursday, saying it presented a colorful picture and failed to address important issues and policies.
Rao, who was appearing in the House for the first time as Leader of the Opposition, told reporters at the parliamentary media point that the budget did not provide any guarantee to any group of the public and no new welfare schemes were announced.
Earlier, the Telangana government had proposed a budget of Rs 2.91 billion with total revenue of Rs 2.21 billion and capital expenditure of Rs 33,487 crore, while the total state debt in the past 10 years was Rs 6.71 billion.
“What is your (government's) industrial policy, what is your agricultural policy or your IT policy? Nothing. It's just gas and rubbish. It doesn't look like a budget other than showing colorful pictures and telling stories Demo,” said Rao, also known as KCR.
“The government has failed to address core issues and have failed to introduce clear policies in areas such as industry, information technology and agriculture,” he added.
Calling it an “anti-poverty” budget, Rao said his party would launch a campaign against the state government and the budget in future.
As far as agriculture is concerned, the earlier BRS government had a clear understanding that the sector should be stabilized in the state and extended Rythu Bandhu (investment assistance to farmers) twice a year.
However, he claimed that the current government said they would shy away from this.
“As we all know, this is an anti-farmer government. They (the government) are not buying paddy (from farmers) and they are not providing quality electricity… The government has cheated the farmers,” Rao lambasted.
He said that while the BRS wanted to give at least six months after the formation of the government, the Congress regime failed to come up with any policy formulation to force the opposition parties to attack it.
