Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath has once again shown zero tolerance for government failure, as evidenced by the recent suspension of an official from Chitrakoot district. The Divisional Inspector (Interim) of the district has been suspended with immediate effect and disciplinary action has been taken against the Assistant Divisional Transport Officer (Enforcement). The move comes in response to incidents where school children are facing difficulties due to delays in issuing health certificates for school buses.
On Tuesday, July 23, two buses transporting young students from Khoh Shriji Inter College in Chitrakoot district were seized by the Chitrakoot Assistant Divisional Transport Officer (Enforcement) due to expired vehicle certificates. The bus and the children were taken to a police station 10 kilometers away. At 11am, the bus and the children were taken to a police facility 10 kilometers away, where they stayed for two hours until being released at 1pm.
Reports revealed that Gulab Chandra, divisional inspector (ad-hoc) of Chitrakoot district, who had been asked to inspect the fitness of school buses in various schools, failed to comply with the rules, resulting in failure to issue valid fitness certificates for the vehicles. As a result, the bus was impounded and the children were forced to endure torture in the sun.
After learning about the incident, CM Yogi Adityanath took swift action and suspended departmental inspector (interim) Gulab Chandra with immediate effect. Additionally, disciplinary proceedings have been initiated against Assistant Divisional Transport Officer (Enforcement) Vivek Kumar Shukla pending further investigation.
CM Yogi Adityanath directed all state transport officials to adhere to accountability standards and prevent such lapses in future. The proactive stance of the Uttar Pradesh government reflects its commitment to ensuring the well-being and safety of all citizens, especially the young population who rely on public transport services.
