FLORIDA – Heavy rainfall and localized flooding are forecast for much of the Southeast, including Florida, in the coming days.

While some areas of the Southeast may be sheltered from the incoming storm, AccuWeather reports that rain is likely to extend from northern Florida into southern and western Georgia and continue westward.

According to AccuWeather, southeastern Texas to western and central Louisiana may bear the brunt of the storm.

However, the National Weather Service is predicting daily showers and thunderstorms across Florida. A large number of storms are possible starting Friday afternoon in Atlantic coastal waters, the Gulf of Mexico, and southeast to southwest Florida.

The National Weather Service said these storms could produce gusty winds and frequent lightning.

Meanwhile, in the Orlando area, showers and thunderstorms may increase, and stronger storms could produce wind gusts of up to 40 mph. Cloud-to-ground lightning can be frequent.

The NWS said the storm could produce 1-2 inches of rainfall from Flagler Beach to the southern Brevard County barrier islands and cause minor flooding in urban, low-lying and poorly drained areas.

All mid-Atlantic Florida beaches are facing a moderate risk of dangerous rip currents Friday.

“Always swim near a lifeguard and never swim alone,” the National Weather Service said.

The National Weather Service predicts that storms may begin after 3 p.m. Friday in Tampa and continue into the region and other parts of Florida through Thursday.

South Florida residents may also struggle with peak heat indices. Temperatures in the Orlando area are likely to be around 90 degrees on Friday and beyond, with a peak heat index expected to be around 100 to 106 degrees, the NWS said.

The NWS said the heat index in Miami could climb to 108 degrees.
