If you don’t have weekend plans yet, you’ll want to make some as soon as possible.
The National Weather Service predicts this weekend will be one of the best of the summer as humidity will stay low into Monday, giving Long Island a break from a stretch of hot weather earlier this month.
Brian Ciemnecki, a meteorologist with the National Weather Service in Upton, said Friday morning's drop in humidity was “almost gone” due to Thursday night's cold front and winds from the north and west. Caused by high pressure.
“It feels a lot different than what it feels like out there,” he said.
Highs will reach the 80s on Friday, Saturday and Sunday, with nighttime lows in the 60s. Except for a possible mist on Saturday morning, showers are likely to be absent over the holidays.
Long Island experienced a series of hot, muggy days earlier this month, with heat index temperatures rising above 100 in Nassau and Suffolk counties.
Ciemnecki said the dew point, or measure of the amount of moisture in the air, reaches the 70s for much of July. This weekend will be different as the dew point will be at least 10 degrees lower.
Humidity will rise slowly on Monday, reaching higher levels on Tuesday and Wednesday, Simnecki said. So if you've been waiting for hot weather to hit the beach or participate in outdoor activities, now's your chance.
“That's it. Don't plan too much indoor stuff,” he said. “It's going to be really cool.”
