Isolated showers are possible Friday night in eastern Kansas with afternoon sunshine. Anything popular today will be rare.
We will also be watching a few showers develop overnight over western Kansas. Again, this will be quarantined.
Temperatures dropped into the 60s and 70s overnight.
Kansas will have two areas of showers and storms on Saturday. A low pressure system moving northeast from Texas will develop scattered showers and thunderstorms east of I-135 Saturday afternoon and evening.
The chance of experiencing this hit or miss rainfall is much higher east of the line from El Dorado to Manhattan. Tomorrow's highs will be less hot, but still seasonally warm in the mid-90s.
Additionally, storms are expected to move east from Colorado into western Kansas, arriving late Saturday night. This rainfall looks to be stronger but will weaken as it moves east into central Kansas on Sunday morning.
Showers are possible on the trip closer to Wichita, but moisture will be light.
Another batch of storms will form in Nebraska on Sunday. The track will be located in the southeast. Some towns near and north of Interstate 70 absorb stormwater better. By Monday morning, the remainder of the complex will curve around most of our viewing area, sliding south along the Kansas/Missouri line.
Sunday will see a triple-digit day in the South West. Winds will also reach 30-40 mph and continue into the middle of next week. By Monday we will have temperatures reaching 100 degrees and above. This high pressure ridge or system will strengthen on Tuesday and Wednesday. The heat index can easily reach 108-112 degrees. Heat warnings will be required starting Monday.
Some storms are possible once the atmosphere cools during the evening and overnight hours. Rain chances are expected to increase as disturbances pass to our north on Wednesday.
Even so, humidity remains low across much of the state. While we made a lot of progress in the drought department last year, this period could set us back in a bad way with the onset of high temperatures and overall dry conditions next week.
