'Police cannot force…': Supreme Court stays Kanwar Yatra food stall order | English News | The Supreme Court stayed until Friday a controversial order by the BJP-ruled Uttar Pradesh and Uttarakhand governments Restaurants along the Kanwar Yatra route have been asked to display the names of owners and employees, noting that the police cannot enforce the order and can at best ask them to display food. AIMIM leader Asaduddin Owaisi claimed the move was to ensure “pilgrims” did not buy goods from Muslim-owned shops, which he linked to apartheid in South Africa and Nazi Germany's boycott of Jewish businesses compared. Crucially, it also states that “… police will threaten action if instructions are not followed…”
