    Showers and thunderstorms on Friday

Scattered showers will develop over southeastern New Brunswick, Prince Edward Island and northern/eastern Nova Scotia on Friday afternoon into early evening. The atmosphere is a bit active, with warm, moist air at the surface being cooler than cooler, dry air aloft. This means that along with the showers, there may be some minor thunderstorms.

This is all driven by heating during the day, so when we lose heating at night, the showers and thunderstorms dissipate and end.

There will be some clouds and some very scattered fog/mist overnight into Saturday morning.

Isolated, pop-up thunderstorms are possible during some showers Friday afternoon into the evening.

    It's sunny this weekend

A ridge of high pressure forming from the west will be large and affect our weather over the weekend.

Sunny weather is expected on Saturday and Sunday. There will only be a few clouds and some scattered fog at night.

No precipitation is expected in the area this weekend.

It was a beautiful day in July, with temperatures ranging from warm to hot, and the weekend began.

    Turn up the heat

On Saturday, high temperatures will reach 24 to 28 degrees in most communities in the Maritimes, which is fairly typical for a warm day in late July.

Sunday is expected to be sunny with a return of south-westerly winds and further rise in temperatures. Except for some coastal areas, high temperatures on Sunday will be in the 20s and 30s.

Sunday will be hotter, but milder in a few coastal areas.

Sunday's southwesterly winds will blow more directly toward portions of Nova Scotia's Atlantic coastline and New Brunswick's Bay of Fundy coastline. High temperatures along the coast in these areas are likely to remain in the upper to lower twenties.

Please be aware of provincial and municipal outdoor fire protection restrictions. Natural Resources Canada said Sunday that fire danger has risen to moderate to high in much of the Maritimes.

National Resources Canada's fire danger index forecast for Sunday.
