    Summer storms will briefly return to parts of the South before temperatures climb again

    Storms will return briefly but are unlikely to affect events at the 2024 Paris Olympics, including Friday's opening ceremony

    The summer storms that have hit France nearly every week so far this year are back with a vengeance this weekend, although they will soon dissipate in many areas and be replaced by sweltering heat.

    Friday, July 26

    Rain is expected in parts of the northeast and west and across Normandy.

    Skies are cloudy in Paris, with a reported chance of rain during the 2024 Olympic Games opening ceremony of around 70 to 80 percent, with rainfall in Normandy set to move inland throughout the evening.

    Elsewhere, sunny skies will dominate the south with temperatures hovering around seasonal averages.

    Later in the evening, a series of storms will develop in the Northeast and along the Pyrenees.

    Currently, 10 departments (and Andorra) face a level 2 yellow alert issued by the national forecaster Météo-France For the storm.

    In the southeast, heatwave warnings will begin in parts of Alpes-Maritimes and Corsica.

    The specific warnings issued are for situations where night-time temperatures remain above a certain level, causing homes and people to cool down.

    Saturday, July 27

    France will face a number of different weather conditions.

    Stormy weather from the Pyrenees will move through central France in the early morning before hitting the Rhône Valley and reaching the German and Luxembourg borders.

    Paris, Hauts-de-France, Brittany and the Normandy region will all experience showers and gray skies.

    To the south, there will be typical summer weather along the Mediterranean coast, but heatwave warnings will remain in effect in the southeast.

    In parts of the southwest and central plateau, temperatures will be around 30°C – 33°C, but with higher humidity.

    Sunday, July 28

    The storm will move across the eastern border early in the morning, but clouds will remain cloudy in the east for much of the day.

    Elsewhere, no rain is expected and although there may be brief cloudy spells in the north, sunshine should prevail.

    Temperatures north of the Loire will be between 21 and 28 degrees Celsius, while to the south, southwestern Provence and inland areas will see temperatures as high as 35 degrees Celsius.

    Temperatures are initially forecast to remain extremely high in the southern part of the country next week, with the southwest likely to reach 40 degrees Celsius for several consecutive days.

    More heatwave warnings are expected, but temperatures are likely to drop on Wednesday (July 31).
