Citing the complaint, Jaiprakash Sharma, in-charge of Amlai police station, said the accused Geeta Kol, who has no children, adopted her sister-in-law’s son about two months ago.
A case has been registered against a woman for allegedly branding a 3-year-old boy with a hot frying pan in Madhya Pradesh's Shahdoor district, police said on Saturday.
The woman denied any wrongdoing and claimed the child accidentally sat on the hot tava.
The incident took place in the Amlai police station area on Friday.
Citing the complaint, Amrai Police Station Officer-in-Charge Jaiprakash Sharma said the accused Geeta Kol, who has no children, adopted her sister-in-law's son about two months ago.
He said she initially cared for the child but later allegedly began beating him.
Sharma said the child was beaten on Friday and suffered burns on various parts of his body.
One of Cole's neighbors informed the boy's mother, who lives in Rewa, about the attack. She also asked the child to talk to his mother. The boy's mother then rushed to the Amlai police station to lodge a complaint.
He said the child was receiving treatment at the hospital.
The police have booked Kol under the Bharatiya Nayaya Sanhita (BNS) provisions for intentionally causing hurt with dangerous weapons or means.
Cole said the minor suffered burns after accidentally sitting on a hot tava.
Further legal steps will be taken after investigation and statements are recorded, the official added.
