Tesla has added some long-awaited features in the 2024.26.1 update, which we’re calling the summer update due to the large number of new features added.
The update only applies to a small portion of the fleet, but more features will continue to roll out in the coming weeks.
Two new features in this update have been highly requested – weather forecast and air quality index (AQI) indicator. So, let’s take a look at what’s new.
weather forecast
Tesla added a two-part weather UI to all vehicles in the 2024.26.1 update. The first section is the forecast preview, located at the top of the screen, next to the current time and current outdoor temperature. There will be an icon showing the current weather – cloudy, cloudy, rainy, sunny, snowy – and there should be a number of preset weather types to view.
The second part is what happens when you click on the icon or the current temperature. This will display a pop-up menu showing the weather forecast for the day, including current temperatures and conditions, as well as a scrollable hourly forecast. It also includes information on the chance of rain, humidity, wind (and wind direction), UV Index and Air Quality Index.
air quality index
Air quality index first came to China a few years ago. In China, this information is constantly displayed on the vehicle user interface. However, in North America and Europe, the UI will only display AQI information if the AQI is considered “poor” or lower. If it is below the threshold, it will appear next to the current temperature in the status column.
If it's not shown and you're wondering what it is – an expanded weather tip (by touching the forecast or temperature icon) – the current AQI will be shown at the bottom.
The Air Quality Index ranges from 0-500, with lower numbers indicating cleaner air. We're not quite sure how Tesla classifies it, but the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) defines AQI as follows:
air quality index |
EPA Conditions |
Tesla status |
0 to 50 |
OK |
OK |
51 to 100 |
ease |
ease |
101 to 150 |
Unhealthy for sensitive groups |
poor |
151 to 200 |
bad |
bad |
201 to 300 |
very unhealthy |
|
300 to 500 |
dangerous |
We haven't seen Tesla's “Very Unhealthy” and “Dangerous” names yet, but we expect them to be similar.

According to an employee on X, Tesla has begun rolling out FSD V12.5 to employees. .
So far, release notes and detailed update information have not been released, but the poster Jay mentioned that summoning or banishing are not included in the release.
renew: Tesla is moving quickly and FSD v12.5 is now available to some OG testers. It looks like we will be skipping the widespread release of FSD v12.4 and some users will upgrade directly from FSD 12.3.6 to FSD 12.5.
Update 2: Tesla AP Director Ashok Elluswamy commented on the release of FSD v12.5 and the apparent lack of expected features, mainly the merging of city and highway stacks and visual monitoring support for sunglasses. He said at X not long ago that subsequent versions of FSD 12.5 will specifically include these two features.
End-to-end on the highway will be launched in subsequent 12.5.x releases. The same goes for driving monitoring support for sunglasses.

No navigation FSD
FSD v12.5 should be a glitch-free version widely released to customers after v12.4.3 is discontinued. Self-driving software catalog Ashok Elluswamy and Elon Musk have both praised its improvements, including the ability to drive without distractions while wearing sunglasses.
Beyond that, there's an expected stack merge for highway driving stacks – which has been running on older V11 versions for quite some time. Along with other big improvements like vehicle and fleet communications, V12.5 is still a pretty big update.
Who is eligible?
Vehicles dated 2024.20 and below, including vehicles dated 2024.15.15 and 2024.14, should be eligible for renewal. A small number of vehicles (less than 1% of the tracking fleet) in 2024.26 will not be eligible for this update.
2024.20 brings several new features, including power front doors for Model X, improved adaptive headlights, new Beach Buggy Racing 2 leaderboards, location privacy details, and optimizations for hot weather.
What is very important here is that most Cybertrucks have a release date of 2024-20-9 which means they will be eligible for the update as FSD V12.5 should also bring FSD and Cybertruck for the first time Autopilot function. Some Cybertrucks were recently spotted equipped with LiDAR units for FSD accuracy testing, which means we will likely see FSD enabled on these vehicles once the 2024-20-10 update arrives.
Tesla will update vehicles on 14/9/2024
Similar to what we saw during the spring update, tonight Tesla began rolling out update 2024.20.9 to North American FSD customers who are still using update 2024.14.9.
This update will bring FSD owners the latest Tesla features in the 2024.20 update, such as the Beach Buggy leaderboard game, etc., but the FSD version will remain v12.3.6 unchanged.
This confirms that the rollout of FSD 12.4.3 has ended, as vehicles as of February 2024 will no longer be eligible to receive the FSD 12.4.3 update on March 15, 2024.
It looks like the next FSD update will be FSD v12.5, but a possible revision of FSD v12.4.4 still exists.
If you are in North America and using the 2024.14.9 update, please check to see if you have updated to 2024.20.9.

Tesla has made some major improvements in FSD 12.4, mainly eliminating the issue of steering wheel shaking under certain conditions. However, there's a caveat – you can't wear sunglasses.
According to Elon Musk, FSD v12.5 will introduce support for navigation-less FSD, even if you're wearing sunglasses.
With the launch of FSD v12.5, OG testers immediately noticed that vision monitoring did not support sunglasses. Tesla Autopilot Director Ashok Elluswamy commented on the FSD version and mentioned that the merging of city and highway stacking and support for sunglasses for visual monitoring will be released in the FSD 12.5 version.
FSD V12.5 is an upgrade
Ashok Elluswamy recently mentioned on X that v12.5 is a major improvement over FSD v12.4. While he didn't mention any specific details, this is consistent with some of Musk's previous comments that each FSD v12 iteration will see significant improvements to the FSD model.
Elon also mentioned that while Tesla has a large fleet, they focus on making FSD work rather than touting every daily achievement, which is their key to making GM self-driving cars work.
FSD v12 is an almost complete rewrite of the FSD City Street software stack, which is a huge improvement over FSD v11. However, some parts of the software stack have not yet been updated. Some features, such as the updated highway stack, are expected to appear in FSD v12.5, which Musk recently confirmed. However, other features such as Park Seek and Banish Autopark that are expected to come with FSD V12.4 are still pending.
What about V12.4?
FSD V12.4.3 is currently rolled out to ~5% of the fleet (~20-25% of FSD users) and has not been rolled out again since around July 10thth. Our new auto-updating stats page can help the curious out there.
Installed on 4.4% of the fleet
Last updated: July 27, 8:30 AM UTC
Given that it's been a while since any new cars received V12.4.3, it appears that releases have been halted. There are many reasons for this, including software bugs or lack of confidence in the FSD. Additionally, it may be discontinued to focus resources on V12.5.
While we hope to see more vehicles get v12.4.3, we'll likely see v12.5 become the next wave of customer deployments. Either way, early access testers and Tesla ADAS testers will receive these updates first, and then they'll be rolled out to the vast majority of customers once Tesla is confident there aren't any major issues. Tesla conducts all of this testing in the name of safety, and most importantly, a bug-free version of the FSD must be the one that is widely rolled out.
So put on your sunglasses now and wait for the next FSD update.
