Temperatures dropped 1 to 5 degrees today but are still hot, 5 to 10 degrees above normal. Temperatures will drop back to near average or even below average tomorrow into early next week. The Desert Heat Warning will end at 8pm today.
Today is our transition day out of a hot and humid pattern as the weather turns cooler and drier this weekend. Temperatures will plummet by 5 to 15 degrees by Sunday, when temperatures will drop into the 70s on the coast, in the 80s in the inland mountains and below 110 degrees in the deserts.
Mountains and deserts will experience breezy to gusty winds at times, with westerly winds of 25 to 50 mph possible. The risk of fire increases due to high temperatures and strong winds, so be sure to take extra precautions against fires. Also, if clearing clutter from your home, do not use electrical equipment that could cause a fire, such as a chainsaw.
This weekend, as the trough moves southward, cooler, drier air will move in, pushing the dominant ridge of high pressure and monsoon moisture to the east.
The marine layer will also expand further inland this weekend, clearing back to the coast each day.
By the end of next week, the weather will be warmer, the monsoon will return, humidity will rise again, and mountain and desert storms are possible over the weekend.
Saturday's highs:
Coast: 70-79°
Inland: 82-91°
Mountain: 80-93°
Desert: 108-112°
