Cedar City— A wildfire that broke out southwest of Minersville in Iron County around 6:30 p.m. Friday was named the Third Canyon Fire by fire officials. On Saturday morning, the fire was estimated at 731 acres.
According to the latest update from Utah Fire Information, the fire was determined to be caused by lightning remnants.
A social media update on Saturday, July 27 said: “Yesterday, strong winds increased the spread of the fire. Last night, the fire was not as active due to higher humidity.” Today, 45 firefighters are on scene and containment efforts are expected to progress .
A red flag warning Notices have been issued for several southern and central Utah counties from Saturday morning through Sunday evening. Relative humidity in these areas will be as low as 6%, creating severe fire weather conditions.
According to the Utah Fire Information Center, the Grave Point Fire, also located near Schultz Canyon in Iron County, has been 86% extinguished.
First reported on July 12, Iron County Fire Chief Ryan Riddle told The Cedar City News that firefighters were working to contain the blaze amid difficult weather.
“We are working hard to treat the Graff Fire,” he said. “Just trying to make sure everyone is safe and close to full containment.”
The Rock Corral Fire burned about 30 acres east of Milford on Friday.
More than an acre burned in Ball Canyon east of Glendale.
No structures were threatened by lightning-caused wildfires in Rock Corral or Bauer Canyon.
The Baker Canyon Fire 2, one mile east of Interstate 15 and 8 miles north of Cove Fort in Millard County, was reported burning in grass and brush around 10 a.m. Saturday.
“Multiple engines and air resources are on scene,” Utah Fire Info said on X.
The fire is currently estimated to have spread to 5 acres and is still spreading.
