The 2024 Olympic Sailing Regatta gets underway tomorrow (Sunday) when women's windsurfers take on the starters at 1213 hours (local time or 1013 SEK UTC), one of four races on the first day of competition The first game.
They will be joined 30 minutes later by men's windsurfers who will compete in three races on the first day.
Sunday will be the first day we see the new iQFoil hydrofoil windsurfing board at the Olympics. If the weather forecasts prove correct, and if some sailors are able to get their windsurfers on foils, we could see some huge profit margins.
Both events are scheduled to sail on the Marseille route.
Around 1535 pm local time. The third event, the women's dinghy race, takes place on the Frioul circuit, one of the two outside circuits. The men's dinghy race begins 10 minutes later on Marseille's Stade, one of two offshore courses.
Winds are currently expected to be light for the first four days of the regatta, with fresh winds over 20km not expected to arrive until Thursday when the men's and women's dinghy (49er and 49erFX) medal races take place. The official competition for men's dinghy (ILCA 7) and women's dinghy (ILCA 6) will begin on the same day.
The men's and women's windsurfing competitions will have their finals on Friday, when the breeze is expected to remain fresh.
The Predictwind current model shows interesting predictions of annular tidal currents on the track. Fortunately for the competitors however, they are in the morning before the race starts and by the time the race starts they should have moved to the outer areas offshore.
