    Springfield and Central Illinois Forecast

Showers and thunderstorms will return on Sunday and continue into next week

Friday night: Quiet, clear and cool. low: 62

Saturday: Sunny in the morning, cloudy in the afternoon. There will be a few showers later in the day. High:85 low: 69

Sunday: Scattered showers and storms in the morning and afternoon. High:83 low: 71

on Monday: Heat and humidity are rising with additional showers and thunderstorms. High: 89 low: 72

Tuesday: Showers and storms in the morning. High:92 low: 73

Temperatures will remain mild during the last weekend of July. Afternoon highs on both days will be around 80 degrees, but humidity will increase significantly, so heat index values will be about 5-8 degrees higher than air temperatures.

Showers and thunderstorms are expected from Sunday morning. The first wave of showers should arrive early Sunday morning just after midnight, but a few showers may already reach our Interstate 70 counties late Saturday night. We should get a break in the mid to late morning hours before showers and storms will become more scattered Sunday afternoon. This will set in motion a pattern of instability that we will carry into next week's work.

Temperatures will return to the mid-90s by Monday, with humidity continuing to rise. By Thursday, our temperatures and humidity levels will be at or above 100 on the Heat Index. Showers and storms are expected each day, but the good news is that any storm activity is not expected to cause severe weather. Rainfall forecasts for the next seven days range from 0.75 to 1.5 inches, which is slightly higher than yesterday's model calculations.
