PHILADELPHIA (CBS) — This weekend is the first rain-free weekend in the Philadelphia area this summer.
It's hard to believe, but each of the past nine weekends has had everything from light showers to storms. The last time we enjoyed a completely dry weekend was May 25-26, the Saturday and Sunday of Memorial Day weekend.
By the way, it rained on Memorial Day, Monday, May 27th.
In addition to a dry weekend, we will have a season of sunshine and mild temperatures, with highs in the 80s to near 90 degrees.
Enjoy the beautiful weather, as it may rain again on Monday. There is an area of low pressure near the Jersey Shore that will bring clouds, showers and storms through Thursday.
Temperatures will hover around or below average Monday through Wednesday, but will rise into the 90s on Thursday and after, signaling the possibility of another heat wave next weekend.
Chico wildfire smoke drifts eastward in California
You may have heard about the huge wildfires in California, Oregon, and Canada. Hundreds of thousands of acres burned, destroying homes, towns, and state and federal forests. Sadly, California's largest fire, the Chico Park Fire, was started by arson.
The Park Fire was nearly three times the size of Philadelphia and remains out of control. The smoke from the park fire was so thick it was visible on satellite imagery.
The question is, will we see smoke from these western fires? So far, it's stuck over the western United States and Canada, but it will drift over the northern Plains, Great Lakes and upper Midwest through the weekend.
Light smoke in the upper atmosphere will also drift across the Delaware Valley on Monday, but northeasterly winds and rain from the low that will anchor the Jersey Shore next week will keep us smoke-free through Friday.
Here is the 7-day weather forecast:
