KANSAS CITY, MO (KCTV) – We had some great weather over the weekend, which is common for this time of year, hot and with lots of dry time. Saturday morning was muggy but pleasant, with temperatures in the mid-70s and sunshine. Temperatures reached the mid-80s in the afternoon with a heat index in the low 90s…not bad for the end of July. We may see some afternoon storm fires, but these look pretty isolated. More of us will stay dry than rain.
Sunday will be about the same, dry in the morning with a few showers in the area during the afternoon and evening. Highs will be near 90, with the heat index gradually approaching the 90s. We may see a round of strong storms Sunday night into Monday morning. We've issued our first warning highlighting the potential for storms driving into work on Monday morning.
Then, it’s all about the heat! July ends on a hot day, with highs in the first half of the week ranging from 93 to 96 degrees. During this period, the heat index range is 105 to 110. The first warning will be issued from Monday to Thursday to highlight the impact high temperatures may have on outdoor activities, causing many of us to avoid outdoor activities during the hottest times of the day.
A “cold” front will develop around Thursday night, with temperatures expected to return to near normal by the end of the week.
