Delhi police have detained two people in connection with the deaths.
Three students died after the basement of the IAS coaching center got flooded due to heavy rains in central Delhi's Old Rajyagarh area. The police registered an FIR in connection with the incident that took place on Saturday (July 27) night and arrested the owner and coordinator of the training academy.
Disaster rescue teams recovered the bodies of two women and a man from the scene seven hours later, while students protested against authorities outside. Police have not yet released the name of the victim.
The National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) has concluded its search in the basement of the IAS Research Circle in Rau, which according to preliminary investigations houses a library. Deputy Commissioner of Police (Central) M Harsha Vardhan said, “The search operation of the NDRF has ended and three bodies have been recovered. The rescue operation of the NDRF lasted for about seven hours.
The DCP said they are reviewing the CCTV footage to understand the sequence of events. According to the Delhi Fire Service (DFS), a waterlogging alarm was received at the coaching center around 7 pm on Saturday, saying that people might be trapped.
Police said the basement appeared to flood quickly, trapping some people inside. A fire department official said five fire trucks were called to the scene and the basement was full of water when they arrived.

Delhi Police registers criminal case

Delhi Police said the students who died were residents of Kerala, Telangana and Uttar Pradesh. Police said all the bodies have been sent to RML mortuary.

According to the Delhi Fire Service (DFS), Law's IAS circle received a call about water flooding in the basement of the coaching institute around 7 pm on Saturday.
“The caller told us that people might be trapped. We are investigating how the entire basement got flooded. DCP (Central Delhi) M Harshavardhan told PTI that the basement seemed to have got flooded very quickly, leading to some people being trapped inside. .
Fire department officials said a total of five tenders were rushed to the scene. When they arrived, the basement was full of water.
The official said the bodies of two female students and one male student were recovered from the spot by NDRF, local police and fire department during rescue operations.
Rescue operations continued until after midnight.
DCP Harshavardhan told reporters that water was being pumped out from the basement where the water level was still 7 feet. Students protested against the death of the civil service candidate, raising slogans against the authorities.
Delhi Minister Atish orders authoritative inquiry
Revenue Minister Atishi directed Chief Secretary Naresh Kumar to initiate an investigation and submit a report into the incident within 24 hours.
“An authoritative investigation has been ordered into how this incident occurred. Whoever is responsible for this incident will not be spared.
New Delhi MP Bansuri Swaraj inspected the site
Delhi Bharatiya Janata Party chief Virendra Sachdeva and Delhi MP Bansuri Swaraj visited the site and blamed the incident on the AAP government, saying the AAP had ignored repeated calls by locals to clean the drains appeal.
“Criminal negligence on the part of the Delhi government was the cause of this accident. JAL Board Minister Atishi and local MP Durgesh Pathak should take responsibility and resign,” Sachdeva said.
Preliminary investigation revealed that there was a library in the basement with several students inside. Water suddenly began flooding the basement. Officials said ropes were used to evacuate the trapped students.
A police official said furniture at the coaching center started floating when it was flooded, posing a hindrance to rescue operations.
