Bhopal (Madhya Pradesh): It is raining in Bhopal. There was heavy rain on Saturday morning, with a rainfall of 18.2 millimeters. The city has received 75.2 millimeters (3 inches) of rainfall in the past 24 hours and 93.4 millimeters (3.7 inches) of rainfall in the past 36 hours. The water level in the upper lake rose 1.4 feet to 1664.50 feet, with the full tank level (FTL) at 1666.80 feet.
Mayor Malti Rai, Mayor along with Member of Parliament (MiC) Ravindra Yati and officials visited Badbhada Dam to see the preparations for opening the dam. Due to heavy rain in Sehore district, the water level of the lake in Kolans river in Sehore district has increased. Kolans, Bada Talab, Bhadbhada and Kaliyasot dams are interconnected.
The gates of Bhadbhada dam were opened first. Then, the gates of Kaliyasot Dam were opened. Affected by the rainfall, roads in the city, including VIP Road, were peeled off and riddled with potholes. There are potholes around the spinner too. Jyoti Talkies Rotary Club, Raj Bhavan Rotary Club have seen potholes. There are big potholes on the roads in Collection area, Sant Hirdaram Nagar, Bittan Market (in front of RBI Colony), Chanchal Chowraha.
To make matters worse, although people have started draining rainwater from their houses, the problem of waterlogging in low-lying areas has not been alleviated. MiC member Ravindra Yati said, “Bhadbhada dam gates will be opened after reaching FTL, which is still 2 feet below the mark line.
On Saturday we visited the dam and took stock of preparations. The BMC has sounded an alert to villages surrounding the dam. The BMC is monitoring the situation in and around the city. “Our technical team has been monitoring the situation at Bhadbhada Dam. We are all ready to open the gates once the FTL is reached.
