A fire broke out in the canteen of the single-screen Chitra cinema around 3.15 pm and was extinguished in 10 minutes
No one was injured in a fire that broke out in the canteen of a cinema in central Mumbai's Dadar area on Sunday afternoon, a fire official said.
Theater management said operations will resume after safety inspections are completed.
The official said that the fire broke out in the canteen of the single-screen Chitra cinema around 3.15 pm and was extinguished in 10 minutes.
He said fire engines and water trucks were put into use and moviegoers and staff were asked to evacuate the scene.
No one was injured and the exact cause of the fire has not yet been determined, the official said.
Later, an official from Chitra Cinema thanked the fire brigade for their quick and effective response and evacuated the theater as a precautionary measure.
The official said in a statement that no one was injured in the fire and apologized for “any inconvenience that may have been caused.”
“Our teams are working closely with the relevant authorities to carry out comprehensive fire safety inspections to ensure our premises meet all required safety standards,” the statement read.
Cinema officials said they are taking necessary measures to prevent such incidents from happening in the future.
“Our cinemas will resume operations shortly after safety checks are completed and we will keep customers informed throughout the process,” the statement added.
