Severe thunderstorms dumped several inches of rain on St. John on Saturday. The National Weather Service said the storm formed and continued to “train” at the same location for several hours. Up to four inches of rain fell in some parts of the town. While the Pioneer Days Rodeo was taking place at the Apache County Fairgrounds, a storm poured in and onlookers sought shelter under the bleachers. The local government said there were reports of houses being flooded in the center of the town and some streets being flooded as a result of heavy rain that lasted for two hours, according to local residents. Longtime St. Johns residents told KAFF News they haven't seen rain like this in the town in decades. Flood waters receded on Sunday. Monsoon air has been pushing into eastern Arizona for a few days before returning to the west later this week. Light showers and thunderstorms are expected in Flagstaff most of the week.
